Description

Filadelfia, Paraguay, 2005

Filadelfia means fraternity, but it is also the name of a place in the Paraguayan Chaco.

Mennonite people, an orthodox-religious group with german roots settled here in the thirties after a long odyssey in search for land and peace. The live together with Paraguayan and Indigenous people speaking a mixture of spanish, an old-fashioned german dialect and indigenous tongues. Although the region is of thriving economic power, multiculturalism and post-colonial structures also cause poverty and dependencies.
